Crimes That Affect Young People and Steps to be Taken

Crimes – perhaps fairly considered product of evilness and / or selfishness – have always been striking society. A great many measures have been taken against them, but a real way of preventing them from happening or of stopping them altogether has not been found yet.

It is certainly very disheartening to see young people doing drugs. Drug dealers do receive severe sentences when they are caught, but the fact that there are so many in existence tells us that they easily escape punishment. Meanwhile, young people know where they are and buy drugs from them all the time.

Another crime that affects young people is rape. Although this one is not as common as drug dealing, its awfulness and prejudice call for some measures of prevention as well. Regrettably, however, rapists also find ways of accomplishing their horrendous goals and sometimes of avoiding legal action. Considering the fact that whoever is raped is likely to develop serious psychological problems afterwards, it is imperative that something be done against rapes.

The police in most countries are supposed to be competent; yet crimes still occur. Most legal systems focus on the welfare of the country’s inhabitants, although justice is not always done. We quite often learn of truthful criminals who do not receive the sentence they rightly deserve, as well as of innocent people being unfairly condemned. Judges probably say that they are not perfect and they can only do their very best when a case is presented to them.

The first step to protect young people from crimes is instruction and counseling. Young people should learn why they should keep away from drugs; this is to be done from an early age. Some young people have problems that are to be dealt by mental health professionals. Parents should not hesitate to look for a psycho-therapist and / or a psychiatrist from the moment they notice a personality shortcoming in their children.

The second step is to adjust the actions police departments are to take and the countries legal systems. Criminals should not have so many protections after their guiltiness has been ascertained. In the United States, for instance, they have a great many chances to appeal their courts’ decisions. As a result, in some cases they do not end up receiving the punishment they rightly deserve.
