Criminal Trends Based on Theories

This discusses the theory based attitudes and trends in criminal behaviors.

Breccara and Betham are two of the theorists that I believe have strong views which impact society itself. Their thoughts in regard to the impact of the individual and their influence in regard to crimes committed serve as a grounding point for discussion. Breccara believed that an individual is innocent till proven guilty. He also believed that the individual should take responsibility for his or her actions in regard to criminal behavior. This is an important attribute to the criminal justice system. Bentham on the other hand believed that punishment was a deterrent for crime and that a person would think twice about committing the crime knowing there was a cause and effect. The only problem with this is; the thoughts on diminished capacity in which a mentally handicapped person may not have the capabilities to perceive this very understanding.

If I was called to senate I would plead the cause of the theory in relationship to its nurturing of society.

Nurturant strategies are the most expensive and cost the government enormous amounts of funding which include: “increased infant and maternal health care, child care for the working poor, training in parenting skills, enhanced public education, and better programs to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies”( Schmalleger, 2006).

Schmalleger, F. (2006). Criminology today. (4th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson/Prentice Hall. ISBN: 0-13-170210-6.

Although these programs are the most expensive; I feel they are the cornerstone of society in deterring its dilemma of crime. The more we treat people in a dignified way, the less we will experience the negativity that crime envelopes.

Social disorganization cannot continue. Children need a sounding pint and solid ground in order to develop into productive citizens in society. There need to be more programs developed and more money instituted inside of the programs.
