Date Rape Drug Sensors and Other Ways to Protect Yourself
A date rape drug sensor may be hitting the market within a couple of years. Scientists in Israel have come up with a date rape drug sensor straw that will indicate that a drink has been spiked. A woman should protect herself when on a date, whether it’s with a date rape drug sensor or taking other precautions.
Most women only hear stories about date rape and the uses of date rape drugs. However, the statistics show that one in six women will experience some form of sexual assault or abuse in their lifetime. Sexual assault can be any unwanted sexual advance, including touching. Date rape almost always occurs with someone that the woman knows. These facts have prompted scientists at the Tel Aviv University in Israel to produce a date rape drug sensor. This sensor will come in the form of a straw, which when put into the drink, will change color or become cloudy; there is also a red light indicator so that even in the baddest lite clubs, the date rape drug sensor will warn of the impending danger.
The date rape drug sensor will cost less than a drink and can be used multiple time, until it reacts to a date rape drug. The scientists are hoping that the sensor will hit the public within two years, and be sold at bars and pharmacies. Professor Fernando Patolaky and his partner Michael Ioffe felt the urgency to get this senor out to help women protect themselves against date rape. The sensor currently reacts with the drugs GHB (gamma hydroxybutyric acid) and ketamine, however, the scientists hope to add Rohypnal within the year. These date rape drugs are often odorless, colorless, and tasteless, however, GHB can have a salty taste, which is usually masked with fruit juices. Read more about date rape drugs.
How to Protect Yourself Against Date Rape
Date rape drug use is rare. The biggest threat to women out on a date is their own behavior. There are a few things that a woman can do to protect herself from the possibility of being date raped:
When dating a new acquaintance, engage friends and make it a group date. This will most certainly deter a would be attacker from trying anything.
Take note of the touchy-feely type of man. If he doesn’t respect your space when you are in public, you can imagine how he will be when you are alone.
Don’t allow unwanted advances to proceed. Speak up and make your date understand that you are not comfortable with his actions. Remove yourself from the situation, if you need to.

I think it’s a better idea for a lady to never put herself in that position. Although I agree that young girls might not realize the danger.

They can now detect these things? It’s amazing what technology can do these days. And when its released it’ll be cheap, so we can only hope that this disturbing act will be a thing of the past. Nice article.
