There are many serial killers though not mentioned here and they may also arouse the feeling of hatred in you but as for now these are the five famous serial killers of India and are also responsible for the production of many thriller movies in India.
Famous serial killers can be sorted out easily based on the region, period or specialties and it often generates a curiosity as to why these people ended up being so cruel enough to make people tremble and shiver.

Thug Behram
Short description: Executed in 1840 for killing more than 900 people.
Description: During the period of 1790 to 1841, Thug Behram managed to kill 931 people. This was the period of East India Company in India and later on after the execution of Thug Behram manuscripts were written about his cold-blooded killings and his psychology by James Paton, then the East India Company officer. Victims of Thug Behram were subjected to death through ceremonial handkerchief or cloth used by Behram to perform his cult ceremonies.

Short description: French serial killer of India during 70s who killed about 12 tourists from Western origin in Southeast Asia.
Description: One of the most famous serial killer of all time in India, Charles Sobhraj has Vietnamese origin and was the subject of many books, short movies and enjoyed the life of a celebrity. He has not been a rampant killer who killed hundreds of people but his ways of killing showing a mastermind and an intellectual made him popular and even while he was in prison he earned for his interviews with the media. After his imprisonment in India during 1976 to 1997 he moved to Paris and was again sentenced to imprisonment when he returned to Nepal. Currently his lawyers have been appealing the French government to look into the matter and pressurize Nepal government to release Charles Sobhraj. Even while in prison he is still gaining the media attention and recently in 2008 a girl claimed to be in love with Charles Sobhraj and it is even believed that marriage took place in the prison between the two.
Auto Shankar
Short description: A serial killer from Chennai, India responsible for the murders of 9 teenage girls.
Description: During the years 1988 to 1989, nine teenage girls were missing and believed to be abducted by the police in Chennai, India. Earlier it was believed that the families of those girls sold them for prostitution due to their poverty but after lot of requests from the families and further investigation police believed it to be a gang act. Later police discovered that an Auto rickshaw driver (Driver of a three wheel transport in India) named as Shankar was being named for these crimes. With further investigation and detectives police arrested him for killing teenage girls and burying them in the residential houses. After his arrest he became popular as Auto Shankar and he blamed movies for provoking him to commit those murders but later he also confessed that his victims were supplied to the famous politicians who raped them and were killed and buried at the end.

Scumbags of the earth would be another good title for these five men. Where is “Dexter” when you need him. Interesting. “Dexter” is an American in a TV show who murders serial killers.
