Four More Famous Female Serial Killers

by Debra. in Crime, December 8, 2008

Female serial killers are just as depraved and relentless as their male counterparts.

When most people think of women they usually think of, nurturing, sensitive, kind and compassionate. For these diabolical killers it is just that misconception that helps them go undetected for so long. Women they may be, but make no mistake, these killers are just as depraved and relentless as their male counterparts. Here is a list of 4 more diabolical female serial killers.

Diane Lumbrera

She suffocated 6 of her own children in Fort Worth Texas from 1977-1990. She would rush the children into the hospital already dead, frantically yelling that they had stopped breathing. When medical staff could not revive them, she would then blame them for their failure to do so. The case brought national concern for ‘crib death’ but the hospital officials became suspicious and she was later tried and convicted and sentenced to three life sentences.

Genene Jones

She was a 27-year-old nurse who worked with terminally ill children. She was convicted of killing 2 peope. She would inject heart medication (heparin-succinylchoine) into ailing infants in order to gain recognition as a heroine when she was able to miraculously bring them back from the brink of  death, or appear as a heroine by taking extreme measures to resuscitate the near dead infant. Finally, upon suspicions, she was placed under CDC investigation, even though her medical supervisor strongly defended her. She was later tried and convicted for the murder of Chelsia McClellan and the nearly killing Roland Jones in 1984. Although law enforcement and hospital officials believed that because she was mobile, moving from one hospital or clinic to another, they expect her to be responsible for up to 46 deaths.

Juan “La Mataviejitas” Barraza

Juan Barraza ruled the Mexican woman’s wrestling circus  as “The Silent Lady” but she became famous for another name, “the Old Lady Killer.” Starting in the 1990’s, Barraza knocked on doors of the Mexico’s elderly, pretending to be a social worker. Once inside she would grab whatever was handy and strangle her victims to death until they bled from their eyes and ears.  after strangling 82-year-old Ana Maria Reyes with a stethoscope, she fled the scene only to be captured near by. Her fingerprints matched those of 10 crime scenes. she remained undetected for so long because the police were unsure if  the suspect was a man or a woman, or a woman dressed like a man or a man dressed like a woman. Her broad shoulders and the force she used to cause her victims to bleed from the eyes and ears made them think she was a man. she was later sentenced to 759 years for 10 murders but authorities believe she is responsible for up to 40.

Amelia “The Baby Farmer” Dyer

In the late 1800’s, Amelia Dyer was a baby farmer, someone who mothers would drop off their unwanted babies to and she would raise them, or supposed to. She was a married woman in her 50’s who lived with her Christian husband but no one ever saw him because they were supposedly separated. As soon as Dyer collected the baby she would return to her flat, strangle it and then throw it in the thames. She was later discovered when a bargeman rowed across the river and spotting a package, he opened it only to find the dead remains of a baby girl. Fearing the murderer would run the police devised a sting operation. They knocked on the door and when she opened the door she was captured. When the news of the capture became known, woman came forward claiming they had left their baby with her. She was convicted of 6 deaths  and was linked to 12, but was believed to have killed more than 50.

This is my fourth attempt at commenting. For some reason my comments won’t go through.
I can’t believe that women could commit such dreadful crimes.
Once again your article has made me sit up and take notice. Great work.

I just don’t understand why anyone would kill or hurt babies. We just had a big story in our local paper of a man who raped a one year old. I could just cry….

These crimes are horrible wether it is a man or a woman but it is true that a woman will get away with it longer because for the most part… we are concidered to be caring and loving. We run when we see a bug and faint at the sight of blood. The truth is that in war times it was the women that were most feared..Their torture was far more severe. They have no soul and life means absolutely nothing to them. Nice article and easy to read. Thanx…

This is so awful to hear. These women were well respected and yet they killed tons of people. They are stupid preverted and crazy. Great article Debra. You have really opened my eyers on how cruel some women can be.

I used to work in durham prison for a fencing company.we had to dig holes to put the posts in. one day I dug up some lead boots, they were believed to be the boots worn by ‘mary ann cotton’ to make her heavier when they hung her. The skeleton was all mashed up. I pretended to be cool about it. the first thing I found was a rib. my mate was openly petrified.
