Gang Stories
What factors influence a person’s decision to join a gang?
Man Charged With Fatally Shooting Young Mother, Injuring Her Brother
Chicago police charged Reuben Navarro of murdering an 18 year old mother and injuring her little brother on April 26th, 2009. He fired on a car with the victims in it. This Chicago evening was tragic. A young mother was fatally shot, and a young boy was severely injured. The boy said he was so scared he was moving to a new town.
The boy didn’t press charges on the killer because he was afraid that he was going to send his men after him. The boy was previously in a gang. The mother, Jennifer Figueroa, was visiting her grandma according to her boyfriend. The boyfriend said he was sitting watching the baby, when a man came out of an alley shooting his gun and saying something. According to the boyfriend the killer shot the wrong people.
This article seems like another sad gang story. It was stupid for the man to kill the innocent people. This is what happens when you get wrapped up in gangs. The killer was dumb for shooting the wrong people, and even dumber for wanting to shoot someone. Areas in big cities like Detroit, Chicago, and L.A. should prevent these crimes because these are the areas were gang violence is occurring. Plus, the boy dropped charges because he feared the man was going to send men after him. That is how I feel about this article.
Gang-Risk Children “Should Be In Care”
British police say that children who have older brothers or sisters that are in a gang are at higher risk to join a gang. There has been a sudden increase of young teenagers joining gangs, usually influenced by older brothers or sisters that are in gangs. The most recent gang related death was a 12 year old boy. “Gangs are a quick way to screw up your life,” said an officer.
People who have an influence of gangs in from their neighborhood, house, friends, relatives, and even city need more help than other children. Police say there are 171 street gangs just in London. Michael Todd explained this to teens at a gang prevention summit, led by the Prime Minister of the U.K. Sir Ian thinks that peer pressure is the number one key of gang recruitment. A spokesman said, “Getting involved with gangs can be a short cut to serious violence in which young people are the most likely victims.”

i have lost many people to violence but i can honestly say i am hurt and do not think of the gangs that did that as bad people. i look at them as young indiviuals that need help. i know that is the easy route out to blame someone else but they need help. i feel their pain for their lose but also think many of these young gang memebers need help.
