Interpol is Working on Identifying New Threats of Crime in The Virtual World

Although the Internet is becoming less conducive to crime, Interpol is working on identifying new threats in the virtual world that end up producing very real damage, like health effects and loss of jobs in Mexico said Ronald K. Noble, secretary general of the agency.

Although the Internet is becoming less conducive to crime, Interpol is working on identifying new threats in the virtual world that end up producing very real damage, like health effects and loss of jobs in Mexico said Ronald K. Noble, secretary general of the agency.

Noble participated in a world congress on piracy ended in Cancun (east) and then traveled to Mexico City. He toured the bunker where he runs a police intelligence center opened last week, from which Mexico directs operations against drug trafficking, and is considered the most sophisticated in Latin America.

“He faces the crime in both worlds, real and virtual, and Interpol will continue working to ensure that criminals involved in all sorts of illegal activities are not safe anywhere,” he said Noble in Cancun during the fifth world congress to combat counterfeiting and piracy, which brought together some 800 experts from 30 countries.

He said that Internet crimes, such as the sale of counterfeit drugs through websites, eventually pose a “threat to the health, safety of individuals and potential damage to the economies.

According to Noble, in the fight against counterfeit drugs, Interpol has identified “816 thousand sites involved in illicit activities, of which 72 have been dismantled, and seized 19,000 shipments for counterfeit products bought over the Internet.
