Justice Delayed, Justice Denied
In the Philippines, filing a case in court has never been that easy. I can only understand why some people especially the underprivileged and penniless no longer seek justice under circumstances considering the slow procedural system in courts, even putting them in a more difficult and hurting situation.
It has been sometime before a friend decided to bring her problem to the court. Hers is not really a big judicial problem but it entails her situation as a woman who provides for her three small children less the support of a father who has been married to another woman long before the relationship has started. The man was married and was an influential politician in the community. Despite the situation, she was allured to his constant propositions and submitted herself to an illicit relationship. In short, the relationship rose and resulted to three children two boys and a daughter. During the relationship, the man has been giving support to her and the three children just enough for basic needs. She was working and has been a great help, so to cope up their needs. The problem started after the birth of the third child. She noticed that he had not been visiting them so often. Not even supporting enough like what he had been usually doing. She started to worry about it since she is only earning a meager income. But because of her hope and love for the man, she just take it to herself. Time came when she learned from another friend that his man had another younger woman impregnated. She was left shocked with the news, unbelieving…But, because of her children, she remained composed. She accepted everything, knowing that she has to stand by all the problems as she knows for a while, hers was an unlawful, relationship. She tried to talk to him, confronted him about it, but the man denied. She had no choice but to see what happens next.
The man stopped seeing her and the children. She was left alone in misery. She tried to see him through some people’s help but he is evading her. She felt humiliated and ashamed of herself. The only thing she thought she could do is just move on with her life.
Despite the consequences, she tried to feed her children, send them to school. Life has been so hard for her and the children. Sometimes the kids go to school with nothing in their stomach. The youngest one was malnourished. There are times when the children has to stay home not going to school. There are nights they just go to sleep not eating dinner. She was having all the difficulties, while on the other hand, the father of the children has been living lavishly being a prominent person who own vast of lands, ranches and several other fruit farms. He had been donating some of his real estate to known charitable institutions in the community. Those times, she was hesitant to go to court as she felt it would bring scandal to the community.
