Keeping Your Home Safe

During times of poverty and recessions crime is on the rise. People who can’t find jobs become desperate and you need to prevent home invasion.

Many criminals will attempt to enter your home the easiest way.  If you make it easy for them then you’ll become a target.  Sometimes the criminals end up being an acquaintance or someone who claims to be a friend of the family.

First things first, never disclose secrets with someone who doesn’t live in the house.  Do not tell people where you hide keys, money, jewelry, guns or anything else of value.  Most home invaders are seeking guns and jewelry.  Keep these items well out of sight and do not brag about what you have.

Secondly be sure windows and doors are kept bolted and locked so there is no easy entry.  If you place shrubs or thorny rose bushes beneath your windows it will deter criminals.

If you feel safer with guns then take the classes and know how to use them.  Keep them under lock and key to avoid anyone using them that shouldn’t.

Having any kind of barking dog will ward off criminals.  When they hear a dog barking they will be more likely to move on and search for another home to break into.  They don’t want to risk the owner being there and being armed.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to safeguard your secrets from people who claim to be friends.  Time and time again I’ve heard stories of so called friends breaking into homes because they knew exactly what they could get and when the homeowner would not be home.  If the homeowner has a dog, they are usually acquainted with the family friend.

I couldn’t tell you what percentage of thefts are from someone the victim knows but I am certain it is quite high.  Which leads us to identity theft.  Identity theft is usually done by a friend or even a family member.  Safeguard all of your personal information always!
