My Thoughts on Drinking and Driving
I think drinking and driving is a horrible problem, and I don’t think anyone should ever do it, no matter what. Thousands of people die every year due to drinking and driving. Other people have to pay for someone else’s mistake.
An even bigger problem with drinking and driving is that it’s not decreasing, it’s growing every year. When I say that, I mean that more and more, car accidents related to drinking and driving, happen every year. The number of accidents is increasing every year. Which is not a good thing. Professionals predict, that if don’t we come up with a way to solve this problem. Then the number of car accidents related to drinking and driving, will continue to grow in the coming years. When I heard this, I felt horrible, because we know it’s happening and theirs not much we can do to stop it! To better understand the situation, we can compare drinking and driving to global warming. Global warming is something that we can stop. By doing various things. Such as, carpooling, and turning down the heat when it’s not being used, etc… But unlike global warming, there’s close to nothing, that we can do to stop drinking and driving. Police officers can only help stop this problem to a certain extent. Even if the law gets stricter, people that drink and drive will continue to do so. The proof is right in front of you. The law has been getting more and more stricter about drinking an driving, but that hasn’t stopped people from doing it.
When a police officer suspects you for drinking and driving. Then you will be required to take a sobriety test [blood ,breath, urine]. You will get to choose which one. If you are found guilty then, most courts will:
-impose fines (and some add on an additional driver responsibility tax)
-suspend or revoke your license (Motor Vehicle Dept. May do so even if Court does not)
-require participation in a drunk driver education program
-add points to your license (and your insurance will most likely increase)
-sentence you to jail or require community service work as an alternative
-put you on parole (called “probation” in some states)
-mpose various statutory fees intended to offset the state’s budget expenses on DWI cases
Looking at the things that can happen to you if you drink and drive, it’s not really a good idea to do it. But people still end up doing it because when they drink, they can’t tell if they’re able to drive. Their ability to make intelligent decisions is heavily decreased.
This is why I believe that drinking and driving is wrong. It’s hard for the people that haven’t felt the affects, to know what it really feels like to have a dear one lost because of someone elses mistakes.
This is why I believe drinking and driving is wrong. Other people have to suffer for other peoples mistakes.
