What is phishing?
Phishing is a form of internet threat where hackers “fish” or “steal” personal data like usernames, passwords, credit card information, PIN, etc., by masking or sending hoax e-mails claiming them to be sent from trusted sources like your bank or financial institutions.

Different Types of Phishing Attacks:
Phone Phishing:
The recent phishing technique is phone phishing. In this case, you would get a call posing to be from your bank and would be asked to enter your account number and PIN. Majority of the times, these hackers use fake caller-ID giving you the illusion that the call is from your bank. This type of phishing is also called as vishing.
Link Manipulation:
This is one of the most common phishing techniques. It is a phishing technique in which the user would be redirected to a website different from the original or the intended website. The website URL will look very similar to the original website. This includes misspelled URLs and usage of sub-domains. Example of link manipulation includes:
In the above examples, a normal user would think it is from the Barclays bank and would click the website; we in general fail to know the following:
- In the first example, “l” was replaced with the number “1.”
- In the second example, an extra “a” is added to the URL.
