Police Brutality Across America
How do people view their very own police officers?
Police officers all over America are the first to get public exposure over police brutality cases, but the risks involved in the job they face are not. It seems to them that too often there are allegations of law enforcement officials using force beyond reason. In the article “When Is Force Excessive” from the Legal Digest section in FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Mr. Petrowski tries to explain how police officers take a risk every day when they go to their job. Excessive force used by officers constitutes a seizure under the Fourth Amendment and is evaluated for reasonable cause every time (Petrowski). “Simply put, only force that is clearly and plainly excessive, something no reasonable police officer could ever do, violates the Constitution” (Petrowski). When an officer is on duty they are taking a leadership role to civilians and are known to do what’s right, instead people hear rumors or allegations against their very own police departments. When heard, Petrowski believes, “The answer is for law enforcement managers to deal with the issue in a forthright and instructive manner” (Petrowski). American’s do not seem to see the danger that is involved with being a police officer, but if they were the one putting their lives on the line for other American civilians then maybe their perception upon police officials would be a totally different outlook.

Just today on the news, the mayor of Dayton Ohio made a speech about how citizens were not coming forth to help the police catch all the killers who are still on the loose. If the police treated citizens with respect, and stopped stocking and harassing them for no reason, and most of all if police would stop arresting the poor for no reason, beating them up and getting away with it, and lying on police reports to ruin peoples lives. Maybe then citizens would work with police to help them find the dangerous killers. As it is now THE POOR WHITES, AND BLACKS ARE MORE AFRAID OF THE POLICE THAN THEY ARE OF THE CRIMINALS. THAT IS THE PROBLEM. When police arrest people to fill quotas and fills jails and prisons up for PROFIT, they are THE ENEMY. Good article. To bad more people are not reading it.
