Ragging

But the human civilization gives us motion and takes away our emotion. It’s one of the most dangerous effect is “Ragging”- the dark stigma in human civilization.

Ragging is a term used in India to refer to criminal activity which takes place inside educational institutions. Ragging is different from other crimes because the motive is solely to get perverse pleasure. Ragging is also different from other crimes as it is actively promoted by certain sections of the society. [src: Wikipedia]. And if you think it is a creation, fashion & obsession of modern India : then I am sorry dear friend, you are wrong. Ragging has a long history.

The very 1st incident of Ragging took place in USA(where ragging is called Hazing) way back to 1657 when The University Of Harvard fined the senior students for freshers Hazing. But this is what officially we can find. Unofficially the brutal culture started long ago. Not only that, the hazing activities was also flourished by encouragement of different people as they used to think that hazing is a good way to teach precedence, build school loyalty and assimilate students from all economic classes.

But in India the story is different. The so called “Ragging culture” was not exists in India before 1960-1970(or we don’t have any evidence) thanks to the Indian ethnic values & virtues. “Crime”, “Torture”, “Perversion”—this type of words were present outside the education system of India. In India educational institutions were treated as “holy places”. No fragrance of “sin” could not enter there. The situation started to change after 1970. The ethnic India started to fade away , western culture were coming more freely and a mix-culture was born. And ragging in educational institution was started. At first the ragging was limited to verbal abuse. But as the days goes by physical abuse,& even sexual abuse starting to come into the picture. From a mere fun to sick mental perversion, ragging main motivation is also changed day by day. Influence of drugs, alcohol make the situation more dangerous for the youth of India. As there were no such legal steps or systematic approach to stop this brutal culture, it flourish in India to a great extent. Within 80’s decade ragging become an integral part of Indian educational system. Not a single school or college left as ragging-free zone after 1980. The real violent & brutal face of ragging revealed gradually. Due to ragging so many students left their study, some could not overcome the mental & physical trauma and become mental patients, some of them even committed suicide .From 2000-2007 officially 31 death took place due to Ragging. Unofficial record & incidents of ragging may not be counted by numbers.
