Should Women Purchase Taser Guns for Protection?

Statistics on the Women on Guard online newsletter says 1 in 12 women and 1 in 45 men will be stalked in their lifetime. This means that plenty of people may consider protecting themselves from possible danger. It said that tasers were invented in the 1970s by a man that wanted his mother to have protection, but he thought a gun was too dangerous. Therefore, women should buy a taser, if they are uncomfortable with a traditional hand gun. It seems like more places are becoming more unsafe. This leaves many people wondering what to do, if they don’t like the idea of a gun. Tasers can be purchased online and some even tailor to women with cute colors. There are numerous online sites that offer the fake appearance of cell phones that are tasers too. The only problem is anyone that purchases a taser must check that their state allows it. There are restrictions because of the powerful electric shock in using them. Taser guns are considered weapons, so airports and other public places do not allow them. Although, they are not as restricted as traditional guns covered under the U.S. Constitution.

Since over one million women are stalked every year, industries of self defense and products have emerged. It is easy to see why due to the fact that crime has increased. Although, tasers are meant to be an alternative to a gun, they could be similarly dangerous if abused. For instance, someone could use a taser against someone and cause internal damages. So, the real difference between a taser gun and a traditional gun is the license requirement. Taser guns do not have any training requirements before purchase, and they operate with batteries. Therefore, this makes it easy for women to point and shoot their attacker without practice. It appears that taser guns are good options that women should consider carrying when out alone at night. However, anyone that carries a taser must realize that you can accidently disarm it. Placing the taser in a safe place is important and buying one that fits your style. The prices tend to range from about $50 and above.

In conclusion, women should only purchase taser guns when they are ready to be responsible for them. Due to the numbers of violent attacks and the plethora of products available to ward off attacks, it is clear that tasers will be here to stay. The need to feel safe is a basic need and as women become more progressive, they see more reasons to be able to properly protect themselves. As a woman, I feel safe with or without a taser. Self defense classes and martial arts work great as well. One thing is obvious for women of all ages, and it is time to take control of our own destiny. Being aware of stalking should be everyday, and women along with men should make concerted efforts to be safe.
