Some Laws Which Should be Passed
Here are a few laws I would like to see in place in the United States.
Here are a few laws that, in my opinion, should be put into effect.
The first one pertains to D.U.I.’s and D.W.I.’s.
First time offenders of either of these offenses should be fined, jailed for a minimum of 72 hours, and have their driver’s license suspended for at least one year. Occasionally you can find some people that one time is all it takes for them go get the hint if the hint hits hard.
The second one pertains to bail for certain crimes.
I do not think that accused child molesters, rapists, murderers, or any other violent crime offenders should even be offered bail. They should be made to stay in jail until their trial. Yes, I know, innocent until proven guilty. However, let them back out on the street and they have the chance to strike again.
The third one pertains to the idiots who speed through school zones or try to pass a stopped school bus.
If a person is caught doing either of these, and even for the first time, the fine should be at least $500. Yes, you read that right $500. A school zone is where children are present. Anyone who has no respect for that deserves to be hit hard. And anyone who tries to pass a school bus once it is stopped, well that actually deserves jail time if you ask me. If not then they at least deserve a $1000 fine.
Then the fourth we have the all famous talking or texting while driving.
Most states already have the law that says you will be fined if caught texting and driving. Some states even have the law that does the same for talking on the phone and driving. I say the fine for both of them should be at least $250. And, yes, that is first offense. Now here is one catch to this law. This should also include eating and driving, applying makeup and driving, reading and driving, or anything else that causes a distraction even including changing the radio and driving. Harsh, of course it is! But you must remember that we are talking about law breakers. If someone who is talking on the phone while driving runs into you or your family, what would you want to happen?

I feel like a few of these laws would be pretty unfair, especially the drivers license law and the one concerned with drinking and smoking ages. The license law is unfair to those who drop out. Now I know kids shouldn’t be dropping out, but the fact is that they do. If a diploma was required for a drivers license, then those kids who didn’t graduate would be at an even greater disadvantage for employment than they already are. And even if the job is tedious, low-paying, and minimum-wage, if those people have families to support, that job is a lifeline.
The raising of drinking and smoking ages is, I think, inconsistent with our current age of adulthood. When we raised the drinking age to 21, while overall teen drinking went down the binge drinking among teens and young adults increased substantially. The drunk driving among those demographics increased as well. And, if we allow these 18 year olds to serve in the army, get married, serve on a jury, etc, then how is it fair to revoke the responsibility of drinking or the right to smoke? While, yes, these things aren’t particularly good for you, prohibition isn’t going to work. It didn’t in the twenties, it won’t now.
Also, banning all violent media is simply totalitarian. Since when does the government censoring certain subjects make us more moral? Violence won’t be eradicated through extreme censorship. That law would also be hard to enforce.

I agree with all of those except for the ones about violence and the driving age.
1. If you censor violence, it will only increase. People who are exposed to violence are less likely to be violent as they get older. It’s a proven fact, besides we don’t live in a totalitarian society.
2. Many teenagers are very capable drivers (myself included). I may be 17, but I have never gotten into an accident nor have I ever gone over the speed limit or received any ticket or warning.
Do not push your values onto others.
