Stop Blaming the Parents

Good parents are blamed everyday for the actions of their teenage children.

Why is it that when a teen commits a crime the first person or persons people point fingers at are the parents? Well let me tell you, my opinion is that little Jonny was old enough to make a decision and little Jonny should be the one to take responsibility for his actions, not his mother or father who is working to pay the bills and support him.

I was raised to respect my elders, you say yes mam no mam yes sir no sir. In my house growing up, if it didnt belong to you dont touch it. You dont tell lies, you did your homework, and all that good stuff. My parents were and still are awesome. But you know what. I did some dumb stuff as a teen. I got in trouble with the law once. Only once. It was my fault. Not my mother not my father. Mine. I knew that i was wrong.

My parents taught me how to behave and how to have respect for others. So how could they be to blame. They trusted me and I broke that trust. I think it is just silly that parents are blamed and often even sent to jail because of a wrong doing of their teen. Parents cannot hold their childrens hand 24/7. They cannot always be there to watch their every move. No body seems to be quite as eager to point and tell when parents are actually to blame for something like abuse, or neglect. I have a two year old and raising him the best I know how. It is hard work but you know what?

When he gets to a certain age, he will know the difference between right and wrong and he will have to face decisions in his life. I will not be able to make decisions for him. I can only guide him and hope that he always does the right thing. Im sure alot of parents with older children who are much more experienced than me know that it is impossible to make a choice for thier children when they are away from them, so how can it be justifible that the parents can be held accountable for the actions of their children?
