The Beltway Sniper Attacks

An article about two serial killers who attacked their victims from long range, and always aimed to kill.

It has been called one of the worst possible scenarios that police would ever have to deal with. A serial killer that kills from long range and leaves barely any traces to be recovered. The Beltway Sniper attacks were originally thought to be orchestrated by one individual but it turned out that two individuals were in on the whole thing. These 2 individuals were responsible for 10 murders and 3 severe injuries. These ruthless attacks occurred during the span of 3 weeks.

I will outline a few of the main shootings that these 2 individuals committed. The shooting originally began on October 2, 2002 but the two shooters were later convicted of yet another murder and a robbery in Maryland on September 5, 2002. The panic really began to rise when the shootings continued on October 3, 2002. This was really when the intensity of the case rose, on this day 4 people were killed within 2 hours in Aspen Hill then another was killed just over the border of Silver Spring. One man was walking with his wife out of a nearby grocery store and as they opened the trunk to put the groceries in the back the man’s wife was shot. As he reported, her blood was splattered every where and it was obvious that she had died. He begun to call out for help but no one would come. It was shortly after these violent shootings that several public schools in the area were under high alert due to the high traffic of kids leaving their schools at this time. Many parents went personally to pick up their kids. Despite the fact that all this attention was taken to protect the children there was one incident that really highlighted the murderous ways of these 2 serial snipers. One boy had left something at his school so his mom drove him back about 30 minutes after school had ended and as he walked out of the car and neared the entrance of the school, his mom heard a loud crack and the 13 year old boy had been shot and severely injured, his mom quickly saved her son and drove to a nearby hospital. The boy would later be pronounced under stable condition.

These two killers were later arrested and identified as John Allen Muhammed & Lee Boyd Malvo. This investigation was publicly headed by Charles Moose and it was because of all of the heroic actions of these willing officers that the snipering serial killers were under arrest for the violent crimes they had committed.
