The Body Farm
Forensic Science.
I was doing some research on forensic science when I found out about this place called the body farm.
Ran by a man named Dr.Bass, it is where students of forensic science can study the human body and its decay in different circumstances.
The research centre is situated in the USA.
People who have donated their bodys to science, after their death will be placed in various situations around about a forest, in cars and different types of soil, and students will make daily reports on each corpse.
To begin with they observe the rigor mortis, the maggots and other insects and how far they are in their life cycle, and eventually when they are naught but rag and bone.
In forensic science and estimating time of death, things such as weather conditions aswell as the atmosphere have to be taken into account, also misleading insects such as mites, which eat other insects, ought to be checked over for.
The flies are the first to the dead body, guided by the substances (cadaverine/putrescine) released from the corpse. Wasps and ants come later, feeding not on the human flesh as do the maggots but on the many insects that arrived before them. The springtail beetle does not appear until the later stages of decomposition, indicating the person died sometime ago, and among the final visitors is the clothes moth, feasting on the corpses hair.
A very interesting place to look up if one is interested in biology and the such like.
