The Casey Anthony Obsession is Nothing New

A culture obsessed with grizzly stories is not something new.

The Casey Anthony story has proven just how obsessed society is with gruesome stories and tragedies. Right? Wrong. Society has always had a fascination for this kind of horror story. It has always been this way in some form or another. The Romans were obsessed with gladiators killing each other or the Christians being thrown in with the lions. Primitive tribes were obsessed with child sacrifices and other very horrific things. Cultures have always had some sort of barbarism in them, a thirsting for watching something chaotic or disturbing.

The Casey Anthony thing differs in only one respect. It is open to the public via 24/7 news coverage. It is a terrible thing what happened to little Caylee Anthony, but the constant tuning in of the trial made it seem more like a circus and less like a trial deciding the fate of a young mother being accused of murdering her child. The public fascination for stories like this has always existed though, so don’t let the media tell you otherwise. The country was obsessed with lizzie bordon, the country was obsessed about the ramseys, OJ, on and on it goes. It is like watching a horror movie for some people as sad as it sounds.

The obsession about tragedies and terrible stories is an old story and as part of human history as anything else. Sad but true.
