The Casey Anthony Verdict: Where Do We Go From Here?
The verdict may have left a nation and perhaps the world stunned, but there a few actions that one can take to help lessen the anger and contribute something positive to the memory of Caylee Marie Anthony.
As one of the millions of people stunned and then outraged at what I perceived as a miscarriage of justice on Tuesday (July 5th, 2011) afternoon, I have taken a few days to think about the situation and to calm myself down.
In my opinion, the circumstantial evidence was enough to point to Casey as the only possible suspect in this horrific crime. So, while I can’t begin to understand how the jury could have come to its decision, I am going to assume that each juror did his or her best with the evidence presented. The decision has been made, and Casey Anthony will walk out of jail next week, and that is the end of the story.
However, there are a few things that those of us who are upset can do to try to turn this outcome into something that is somewhat positive. First of all, we can remember Caylee Anthony indefinitely. When the dust settles and people go back to their lives, the memory of Caylee can live on. Second, we can donate toys in her name to charities that work with children in need. That was one of the recommendations made by Caylee’s grandparents in their statement to the public after the verdict was handed down. And finally, we can sign a petition to enact Caylee’s Law. This law would make it a crime for a parent or guardian not to report the disappearance of a child.
As you can see, there are positive options for dealing with this verdict, and I encourage anyone who was stunned and then outraged to pick one and take action. Hopefully, by taking action those of us who didn’t have the opportunity to sit on that jury can feel that we have contributed something positive to the memory of Caylee Marie Anthony.
