This article describes the Crime of Theft by Deception, also known as the Crime of Criminal Fraud.

The Crime of Theft by Deception, also known as the Crime of Criminal Fraud, contains the following elementswhich the prosecution must prove to convict a defendant:

1.   An oral or written statement is made by the defendant.

2.  The statement is false.

3.  The statement was made by the defendant to the recipient, intentionally, with knowledge that the

       statement is false.

4.   The recipient relied on the statement to his or her or hae,  detriment.

5.   The recipient was damaged financially in his or her or hae reliance on the false statement.
