Training a Murderer

With information flowing like an easy reading manual is life for the criminal getting easier every day?

I considered starting a blog How to Get Away with Murder, adding entries as diary and building up the lessons in an attempt at displaying how easy it would be compile the necessary information in one neat place.  Gave thought to a book (even had a title-Appointment with the Donut men)but decided either course of action was probably an invitation for MI5 or the like to come knocking on my front door with a list of questions.  So it came to be that a less descriptive article seemed the answer.

Two years ago the BBC showed a programme How to commit the Perfect Murder highlighting the problems of the information given within shows like CSI and NCIS, yet in the time lapsed since its showing these forensic shows have grown in number flashing across our screens with an almost daily slot.  Is it the intention of the shows writers to offer free ‘inside’ information to the many unbalanced minds that can tune in for today’s lesson or is it simply a flaw in the bid to be accurate and factual.  With the additional aid of many “discovery”products to check their progress in cleaning up. As a fan of such shows I watch with avid interest as the investigation progresses and through a series of scientific & psychological experiments and theories the case is solved enthralled by the cleverness of it all, relaxed that crime came from someone’s keyboard.

In these shows and the many films written on a similar line we have already been introduced to the internet auction game of highest bidder chooses type of death to be endured by the person viewed via webcam, how contrary to the writings of one show you can indeed remove any signs of criminal activity with the correct cleaning, while shows like these are far from new now they are more graphic and informative.  It is true enough that with newspaper coverage and case hearing reportsthe relevant data has always been available to those willing to look for it and yes indeed you can easily find the recipe for a bomb from most library’s or a simple Google search.  Whilst it is imperative that such data is stored for training and historic purposes there should surely be restrictions on who has access to such potentially dangerous material.

Diary of a Murder

Alone on the park bench he sat with half drunken bottle of scotch in his hand; a stranger to all is the village tramp.  Drunk and dirty with long matted hair and shabby clothes.  I wondered would anyone notice if he suddenly vanished or whether he had family who would care.  For the first obstacle must be in victim choice, one not likely to be missed.

With a bottle proffered forward I made his friendship, together we slugged from its ribbed glass neck, me a simple lacing of lips to fill the nostrils and deny them his stench while he took deep gulps that filled the gullet. His cheeks were reddened and the daytime sun low in the sky when the bottle neared empty and I realised that location was my second hurdle.

I followed when he rose from the bench, his former glass lifeline now empty and discarded on its aging planks. Through the wrought iron gates he shuffled headed toward the canal…
