Why Children Join Gangs

This is a short story on why our youth today get involved with gangs.

Kids today join gangs because of the lack of love that they are supposed to receive from home in the beginning, in order for a child not to get mixed up in this situation, you as a parent must talk to your child regularly.  You need to find out what is on their mind, you must try to understand their thinking pattern.  Open conversation in the home is the first step.  Get a feeling on what your child hobbies are, or get involved in the things that he or she likes to do.  Make the children feel apart of the family, make yourself open to suggestion.  When you have create an atmosphere like that in your home, your child will carry that same sense out into the world with him or her everyday, and think twice about gang joining, on the other hand, if you don’t show any love, the kind that is expected, someone else will take that position in the form of a gang.  Gang members will tell your children everything they expected to hear from you, and your child will be coached into making the biggest mistake of their lives, because what they don’t tell your child that after they join, that it will be hard to get out.  The consequences after joining are crucial cause now they have a leader and they have to follow rules other than yours, they become brain washed and start to believe that these people really care for them, I can share this with you, because this happened to my son, but because of our open relationship and conversation he told me how some gang member approached him while at school, he was in the six grade, now he’s going to the seventh grade.  I told him to the local police station, a police officer sat us down and told my son all about gang activities, he explained to him that it was good that he told me and he was able to give the names of the youths.  This is what it is about, create an open conversation with your kids, its worth it.
