Cause of Death

A quick look at the top four in fourteen different causes of death in various countries around the world.

Depending on where you live in the world, you are more likely to die of one thing than another. This is a select set of fourteen causes of death per 100,000.

Alcohol

People do drink themselves to death, primarily in Central America and Haiti.

El Salvadore 22.8
Guatemala 14.7
Nicaragua 10.5
Haiti 9.2

Alzheimer’s

People do die of Senility, of course, they have to live fairly long to do it. Notice, that outside of the Maldives, the other three nations are known for their long life span.

Maldives 34.7
Finland 33.3
Iceland 22.3
Netherlands 21.1

Anemia

Having very poor nutrition results in iron deficiency, bad enough to cause death.

Sao Tome 52.6
Haiti        44.1
Laos       19.8
Seychelles 19.0

Asthma

The nation with the highest level is unexpected.

Fiji 35.2
Sao Tome 31.1
Equ. Guinea 30.7
Guinea Bissau 29.8

Breast Cancer

Outside of Armenia, the other three nations are in Africa

Armenia 22.2
Burkina Faso 21.8
Sierra Leone 21.4
Nigeria 20.8

Cervical cancer

Bolivia 27.0
Tanzania 26.3
Swaziland 24.2
Malawi 23.2

Coronary Heart Disease

These countries are all located in Eastern Europe/Asia

Turkmenistan 456.0
Moldova          427.7
Ukraine           424.1
Armenia          419.7

Diabetes

All four are Caribbean nations where the diet has changed to a ‘fast food’ one.

Trinidad/Tobago 128.2
Saint Vincent 125.8
Guyana          97.9
Antigua/Barbuda 90.7

Drowning

With piracy and attempts to leave via the sea, the first two nations are no surprise. The third is an Island.

Somalia 26.6
Cote D’Ivoire 25.9
Nauru      20.8
Rwanda 20.6

Drug use

Being the capital of poppy growing it is not surprising Afghanistan would be first. The other three are rather surprising.

Afghanistan 33.1
Djibouti 14.9
Egypt 13.5
Yemen 13.1

Endocrine Disorders

The first three are islands in the South Pacific, but Afghanistan is in Asia.

Kiribati 48.1
Tuvulu 28.1
Marshall isl. 27.2
Afghanistan 27.2

HIV Aids

The statistics here are not a surprise, considering that Mugabe has made such drugs expensive and confiscated those donated by foreign agencies.

Zimbabwe 2143.6
Lesotho 1134.7
Swaziland 1050.7
Botswana 1019.7

Suicide

Guyana is a bit of a surprise here, as headlines do not reflect the difficulty of life as they do in the other countries.

Lithuania 37.7
Guyana 35.8
Russia 32.3
Belarus 31.1

 Violence

The first is linked to the drug cartels, the second has had a terrible time controlling crime since Apartheid ended. There is constant strife in Cote D’Ivore as it is being brought into the small band of Narco-nations as is Guatemala.

Colombia 81.7
south Africa 70.8
Cote d’Ivoire 62.4
Guatemala 51.3

The point is the cause of death…which countries have more people dying of one thing…for example if one looks at the AIDs statistic, one finds that all the countries are in Southern Africa ….Zimbabwe is twice that of the others because Mugabe confiscates the medication, where in the other nations, there are clinics.

The Endocrine disorders seem confined to the South Pacific, save where does Afghanistan come into the equation?
