China: Workers in Factories Apple Signs Promised Not to Commit Suicide
Workers in Chinese factories where Apple is building iPads and iPhones are compelled by their leaders to sign undertakings that they will not commit suicide.
The information comes after an investigation, after 14 workers were killed in the past 16 months due to harsh working conditions.
Signed commitments provide that, if committed suicide, their families will receive only minimal damage. Foxconn, Apple the company that operates plants in China, even as he accused some commit suicide because their families receive some compensation huge that would ensure the future.
Conditions in these factories are “horrendous”, with many being forced to work many hours overtime, illegally, without being paid. Lately they have been forced more and more of it, given that demand has grown tremendously and iPhone iPad.
Foxconn spokesman, Louis Woo, said that “work to change these conditions.” Apple code of conduct requires that workers be treated with respect, which never happens, as surveys have shown.
