Crazy Ways to Get Buried!
We take a look into the increasing popularity of alternative burials and some of the ideas and practices abound today.
Well it is something we as people must face at some point in our lives. Whether through unfortunate circumstances where our lives are ended prematurely or if we live our days on this planet until old age and time brings us to an end. That is death.
But many people are giving thoughts to how they wish to be celebrated and also buried.
The traditional burial or cremation is now being replaced by more bizarre and in some cases outlandish “burials”.
As technology progresses some people, be it those that have money, are opting for cryogenic freezing where they can be preserved for many decades, perhaps centuries so long as the “fridge is still on” in the hope someone someday in the future will be able to cure the disease that ended their lives or just bring them back to life full stop.
Then there are people who wish to have their ashes blasted into space. This is becoming popular as some space agencies are offering “room” on their rockets for ashes to be launched. But still this is at considerable cost.
Other outlandish burials are in Hot Air Balloons, having ashes scattered from an aircraft or perhaps less shocking, burials at sea. Others opt for a favourite field or tree. There are some who wish to be buried close to mountain tops or rivers. Some reports even suggest being buried with their cars!
Perhaps one of the most disturbing burials is one where a man suggested when he died, he wished his wife to chop him up and serve up his remains as a stew to family members and friends! Now that could bring about some wild ideas for any long suffering wives out there but that could be another story…
Research has suggested that such celebrations of death are on the increase.
In Britain, Age Concern carried out a survey and established through it that 55% of 2,068 people opted against a traditional churchyard or garden of remembrance send off.
Some chose their favourite holiday destinations or a place they were fond of as children; whilst a few said they wanted to be buried in their own gardens.
Perhaps what is comforting to know is more and more people are trying to think of ways that reflects their lives they lived and wish to be remembered as such when they die.
Death is something we care not to think about as best we can, but whilst this is the case we would all like to be able to “look down” and smile that when we did go we went in the style we always envisioned.
So how would you like to be remembered?
