I don’t want to burst your bubble, but I am Swiss, I have been there, seen it, and I know how they work. The dignified organisation you must be thinking of is called Exit.

Dignitas is just after the money; they have been found suffocating people in plastic bags filled with Helium. I would not dare to call that dignified; it’s the way Nazis killed Jews when no gas chamber was handy.

For once that an organisation has the courage to go counter-current to the masses of people who are happy to be alive, and offer a non-violent solution to one’s disagreement to be alive, I think Dignitas should be applauded.

I have been through one failed suicide attempt, and 2 decades later, having literally contemplated and hoped for an immediate death on a daily basis, I still haven’t found that sure-fire method. But I will one day. And it would be unfortunate if I screwed it up like the last time, ended up in hospital with irreversible physical damage and then had to sit another 4 months in a psychiatric hospital, whilst “well intentioned” people, try to force their opinion on me that life is worth living. It is for some, perhaps, but not for everyone.

So, because of public opinion castigating assisted suicide as immoral, etc., I will have to just be patient and find another violent means to end my life, rather than a peaceful, well orchestrated death from an honourable institution like Dignitas, that would only be giving me what I have been hoping for, for more than 20 years now: to be able to go to sleep, and never have to wake up again.
