Eight of the Worst Ways to be Executed
If you are a fan of the death penalty, you won’t be after reading this.
No one wants to die, but many religions hold in their beliefs an afterlife. None of these afterlives are bad; in fact, most describe a paradise in complete union with their god. However, over the course of history many different forms of execution and death have been created. Some require man-made instruments, while others use nature to satisfy the debt that all men must pay: death.
1. The Brazen Bull
The Brazen Bull, a large brass bull, was created by Perillos of Athens, a brass worker. He presented it to the Tyrant of Agrigentum, Phalarus. The brass monster was hollow and had a door in the side, large enough for a man to fit through. A fire could be lit at the bottom of the bull, slowly roasting alive the victim inside. The metal would be heated and glow, and incensed smoke would rise from the top. The victim’s bones were said to shine, and bracelets were made out of them.
Perillos is said to have added a network of tubes and pipes on top of the bull, so that when the victim began to scream, the sound was amplified and echoed in the halls. Phalarus ordered Perillos to test the sound system, and then was so disgusted with Perillos, shut him in and roasted him. Ironically enough, Perillos, the creator of the Brazen Bull, was the first to die by it.
2. Hanging, Drawing, and Quartering
This was the most common form of punishment for treason in England; treason was the worst possible crime. This form of execution was only for men.
The victim was first tied onto a wooden frame and then dragged by a horse to the place of his imminent death. Next, he would be hanged from the neck, but let down before dead and lain on a table. The executioner would then disembowel and emasculate the victim. The organs would be burned before the victim’s eyes, at which point the person would be beheaded and cut into quarters. These parts were then displayed across the town.
3. Keelhauling
This severe punishment was dealt out by the Dutch Navy for corporal crimes. A sailor would be tied to a rope, thrown overboard, and then dragged to the other side of the ship. The marine growth on the bottom of the ship, such as barnacles, would cut and scrape the skin if one was pulled to quickly.

None of these relate to modern day practices of execution so I don’t understand why you would ask if people are still a fan of the death penalty. It was all very interesting but has nothing to do with the death penalty.

The falaying should be reserved for pedophiles. I think if this was the punishment there would be no pedophiles. Although the latent effect would be that the punishment is so severe those victimized by a loved one would be less likely to come forward. ahhhhhh well!

I live in India. I believe Death sentence should always be made in Public to put fear in future criminals.
Eight different sentences should be for eight catagories.
Lingchi for terrorists.
Flaying for Pedophiles.
The Brazon bull for spy/trailors from within.
Breaking wheel for Murderers who kill for money/property.
Death sentence is very healthy for building a peace society if you see its bigger picture, it should be made in public and after extensive evidence and proof.

The death penalty is barbaric and should have no place in civilized society! On the other hand, if it’s going to happen anyway it may as well make a bit of money; This could be prime time T.V. don’t forget. And those who watch it live can collect souvenir mugs ect.
The convicts should take part in a quiz or gameshow to establish what death they get. That’d add to the drama.

Or, you can keep your people uneducated and credulous, and tell them it’s a “family value” and “patriotic” to work at dead-end jobs for piss or to join the armed forces to keep the defense industry solvent. at least flaying only takes a couple of hours. nothing like 40 years of unending torture.

The practices are not just in history books, these things still happen and just as gruesome. Switch off that American Idol, pick up a newspaper, and pay attention to whats going on around the world.

Yes! Don’t you guys see? THIS is the only way of restraining order! I mean, when a mexican dude stabs his wife in the chest 2 times, leaving her to bleed to death then why should he be killed instantly and painlessly? They do it the right way in the Mid-East, cut one arm off for one theft, the other for a second theft, you don’t see much stealing around there! I say we bring up the old customs

im totally with you man! if we let troublemakers and the like run around after serving their twenty years or so for an “accidental” murder or something why wouldn’t they do it again? sexual crimes should be especially punished with like their parts being cut off

This is hilarious. You can actually find pictures of the necklacing one if you look for it. This would be excellent entertainment if people weren’t so damn queasy.
I think that if someone’s going to be executed, it should be televised for our own amusement- it’s one way of giving back to the public.

I agree with everyone who appreciates how great the death penalty is. They show a great devotion to American ideals, including making unresearched claims and standing by them in the fact of overwhelming contradictory evidence.

In Belgium, a mentaly ill, 20 year old man walked into a kindergarden and stabbed 2 babies to death and wounded 20 other children.
Most of them were not older then 4.
he also wounded and killed a few nannies, all without reason.
I really really want this man to have one of the penalties above…

Death penalty seems exciting and hilarious when none of your family members are victims. Only when they are will you realise how horrible it really is. Everyone deserves a second chance in life, and what good will killing people because of a mistake they can fix, do? People can change a deserve a chance to proove themselves
