Getting to Heaven

For people who still think that heaven is above and hell is below get ready for a shock: it is in neither of those two places. It is with you and you have the capacity to live your life the way you want to. Another way of putting it is that good and evil are in your heart.

Now I am no guru but I do have common sense and that is I know that my life here is incomplete as I see it. The reason for my existence is still unknown and I don’t think I will ever find that out. Then of course if I did, I wonder whether there would be any more purpose in all this uneventful tax paying, squandering money to pay rent and hoping for a better future. Then again I must act as though that outlook is quite trivial and my purpose is not the paying rent and getting distracted from the source of where I came and where I would be going to. I am referring to my soul, because once I die my enclosure will have fallen apart and gone back to the earth from where it came. Now I must sound like holier than thou to many, but that is no matter. I need not worry about how others judge me ,especially if I have done little wrong. I cannot correct the wrongs that I have done in the past but I have learned from many. Nor do I think that certain people have a patent on where I am going to go. Sometimes I would just like to go beyond the material world, beyond the world of needing to get ahead in life, just to ask myself: Why am I doing all of this?

Well I do have an answer while I continue to work towards those material goals and that is to change the way media has been pressing buttons and making violence on TV the norm. This gives me reason to produce film shorts that have a philosophical slant. I do not think that I would need to show violence in film, to demonstrate that social trend and to try and heal the aggression. There are more weapons accessible to the public and schools and public places are growing more insecure because of the violence that is real. Philosophers and sociologists have long called attention to the media as being a source. But one does not have to look at TV as the culprit when just as much or more is spread across virtual space. The way of getting to the heaven, in my heart, is by doing good and treating people with love and kindness, not just with the respect they deserve. I suppose one has to be more compassionate towards those who have only learned squalor in their lives in order for them to feel peace and comfort. Yet I must be more than in ’survival mode’ in order to complete that tall order. I must feel self empowerment and the ability to lead others down a better path.
