Is November The Month of Death?

So many Ugandans of eminent stature died this November-perhaps November brings death along, does it?

My Capital city Kampala has seen a string of deaths of notable citizens of this country this first half of the month of November 2009. Like some of my articles attempted to insinuate, November-December of every year brings mysterious deaths onto Ugandans. Accidents especially happen in a wave and in some kind of pattern. It is not clear to Ugandans whether this is some hand of God or ill luck that is responsible for such strings of deaths.

I note that All saints day is celebrated by christians on 2nd November, meaning that there are quite some vistages of truth that for along time in the human history, November is closely associated with death. I also note that First World War ended in November 1918 and we all know that the past few weeks of war preceeding  this day saw the heaviest casualities of war. These few facts only go along way to reinforcing the belief that death seems to be a common vistor upon man kind in November.

Mr. Brian Bukenya, Son of the Vice President

In our case here in Uganda, it all started on November 3rd 2009 with the death of Mr. Brian Bukenya, the son of the Vice President of Uganda, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya. Brian, 26 was a young lawyer and a favored son of the Vice President. He was a practicing lawyer who decided to try his luck in the Military. He had reached the end tail of his military training as a Cadet, and was due to be passed out next December 2009 when death struck. He set out from the Training Acadmy for a brief visit to Kampala on that ill-fated day but along the way on Mubende Road, they had a head on collision with an oncomng track which killed him and two others instantly. The driver who was reckless by all standards, escaped un harmed and is now helping police with investigations.  It was a moment of great grief for Ugandans who saw Many shed tears along with the Vice President of Uganda. He could not hide his loss when he said, ….“My son Brian was my heir and I had hoped he would take over everything I stood for….I knew he would replace me”.
