Michael Jackson Still Thrills Our Hearts
The deaths of Michael Jackson and Patrick Swayze, makes us think that death is a reality that affects us all.
We heard the stories of celebrities that died, like Patrick Swayze or Michael Jackson, and our first reaction is shock. But instead of focussing on their deaths, we think of their lives, what they have achieved, why they were admired, and we mourn their loss.Death is not a joke nor a game, but a reality that exists, but which we don’t understand.

If we can’t understand Death why does it exist.
We can understand why food exists. So we can nourish our bodies. We can understand why we love our parents.Because they are part of us.We could argue that we can understand death, because it’s part of life. But ultimately this begs the inevitable question.
- If all life ends in death, what is the purpose of life?
First of all, in life, there are realities which no matter how much time we decide to understand them, there are beyond understanding. They simply cannot be understood.Death is a reality, which we accept as part of life, which being real affects us emotionally as its a sad experience. We may use rationality and science to say that death is a natural process created by ageing, disease or accident, but emotionally we are hurt from its effects and our minds don’t ultimately understand why it exists.
- After death, only memories remain.
We are left with memories of the lives of those whom we knew.If we don’t understand death, we can’t really explain why it exists, other than saying it’s a natural process, such as our need to eat, to feel love and love, and other realities of life. It doesn’t explain the why’s.
We see statues of people who have died in museums, such as busts of emperors and egyptian queens, and these remind us that these people lived, and even in death, they will be remembered.Below is a statue of Michael Jackson(source:wikipedia commons) that remind us of all that he stood for.It brings all the memories of what he did in his life, about his success and talent which was shared with millions of people around the globe.

Can our mind really understand the meaning of death?
- It’s really a mystery.
- Mysteries don’t have meaning, but they exist and are part of life.
Our mind is designed to understand our world, our immediate reality, such as reasoning and understanding of let’s say, science, politics, mathematics. We can understand these because our mind is equipped with the means for understanding these. But death, does not fit with anything known to man, science would have it’s explanation, but it doesn’t deal with the emotional consequences of how death affects us.

We can accept that death causes our physical self to not exist, but we don’t understand the reality of it, till it happens to someone we know, or we fall prey to disease, and the very possibilty of death creates a reality check on our lives.
We can’t control nature, all we can do, is live our life, without worrying about death, because it’s not something we can control or do anything about. So live life to the fullest, be happy with your life, and focus on the positives of life.Life is a possibility to achieve our goals to ourselves and others so they can remember us for the good things we have done, because it’s memories that will be left when we are gone.
