There are a number of reasons why people commit suicide. Some of the reasons that a suicide pursuant can put forward can be labeled trivial by others who have never contemplated suicide.  But what is common among those who commit suicide is what triggers them to end it all. Here are some of them:

Young ones will commit suicide because:

  • They think that suicide is the best punishment for those who bullied them
  • They get a bad report card from school
  • They find themselves in conflict with the law and
  •  When they suffer a sudden end of a romantic relationship

             Adults will commit suicide when:

  •  They are engulfed in work related problems
  • When they are in financial problems

The elderly will commit suicide when:

  •  They retire from their employment
  • When they suffer from a physical illness

However, not all people follow the suicide route when they come face to face with the above situations. So why do some people choose to commit suicide when they meet unbearable situations where as others don’t? The following are some of the reasons:

  • Mental disorders
  • Addictive disorders
  • The person’s brain chemistry
  • The person’s genetic makeup

           How Can we Help?

  •  Be a good listener. When we listen attentively when the person speaks, he/she will know that we love him/her and will open up and tell us how he/she feels.
  • Keep away anything that the person might use to commit suicide
  • Encourage the person to seek medical help if the situation keeps growing.

Of course, we can only help when we know that someone is contemplating suicide. Strangely many people with suicide thoughts don’t tell anyone until they are successful in their pursuit (dead).  Here is how we can know that someone has suicide thoughts:

  • Sudden mood changes
  • A formerly social person isolates himself/herself
  • Change in eating habits (either eating less or too much)

Experts have said that if we can make someone fail to commit suicide for just few hours, we can change his mind forever. And chances are that he won’t do it forever, leaving us with a clean mind.
