World’s Most Famous and Notorious Suicide Places
The intentional killing of one’s self or suicide occur for a number of reasons like anxiety, depression, desperation, emotional pressure, financial difficulties, guilt, physical pain and other undesirable reasons.
Beachy Head

Beachy Head, which is one of the world’s most popular suicide sites, is located in East Sussex, England in The United Kingdom. There are about 500 recorded suicides on this place.

This scenic spot with its dramatic chalk cliff experience a steady increase of suicide attempts in the year 2002 up to 2006 (with 20 attempts every year) forcing the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team to conduct regular day and evening patrols of the area in attempts to locate and stop potential jumpers.
Archway London

Archway Bridge, which is also known as Hornsey Lane Bridge, is located in London in England, UK. More than 20 persons each year have been known to have committed suicide on this site.
Eiffel Tower

Quite unbelievable but this world famous landmark named Eiffel Tower which is located in the most visited city in the world – Paris is one of the most notorious sites of suicide in the world with about 350 recorded suicides already.
Coronado Bridge

The Coronado Bridge in San Diego, California his another notorious site for suicide. From 1972 up to year 2000, there were more than 200 suicides recorded and many more since then. It is regarded as the 3rd deadliest suicide bridge in the US.
Aurora Bridge

Still in the US, another deadly suicide bride is the Aurora Bridge in Seattle, Washington. More than 230 suicides have been recorded since 1932 with more than 50 from 1997 up to 2007. It is also known as George Washington Memorial Bridge.

Because of its towering height, the bridge became a popular location for suicide jumpers. In 2006, 6 emergency phones and 18 signs were installed on this notorious bridge to encourage people to seek help instead of committing suicide. And in 2007, a suicide prevention fence was constructed to lessen the number of suicides.
Jacques Cartier Bridge

This bridge is located in Montreal, Quebec in Canada. More than 140 cases of suicides have been recorded on this bridge. To reduce the number of suicide jumping on this bridge, fences were constructed in 2003.
Niagara Falls

Quite unusual but this popular tourist attraction located on the US-Canada borders is one of the deadliest suicide spots in the world. Based on compiled cases of known suicides from the year 1856 up to 1995 – 2,780 have been recorded.
Skyway Bridge

The beautiful bridge known as Sunshine Skyway Bridge is another deadly suicide site with 170 cases of suicides. This nice attraction is located in Tampa Bay, Florida in the US. Construction of suicide prevention fences and installation of hotline phones have reduce the number of casualties but not the number of attempts.
Chiffon Suspension Bridge

This suspension bridge located in Bristol, England is another deadly suicide bridge with 127 suicide cases from 1974 up to 1993 only. Many more death occurred before 1974 and after 1993.

The second daughter of the famous singer Shirley Bassey was found dead underneath the bridge in 1985. The wife of Singer Georgie Fame committed suicide from the bridge in August 1993. During the construction of this bridge, two men were killed.

Vasterbron

More than 100 cases of suicides have been known in the bridge called Vastebron. It is located in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Vastebron means ‘Western Bridge’.

Great article. Suicide is such a tragic event. If people would only stop and think about what they’re doing, and the hurt they’re causing, perhaps they would see that help does exist. Nothing is worth committing suicide over no matter what it is. You did an excellent job writing this article, Nobert. Keep up the great work. It looks like you did quite a bit of research on this. Glad to see you back.

an article that truly caught my attention. i have never known that some of the world’s tourist spots are also some of the world’s known suicide locations. the write-up was short yet full of information. this suicide problems should be addressed.

A very interesting though sad article. I live a couple of miles from Beachy Head in UK and was recently told there was a suicide there almost every week. It does take away from the beauty of the place.
