Disability: Yes or No?

Who is to say what conditions can actually qualify you for Disability. Should be be short term, long term, or even permanent.

In the old days it seemed like it was only allowed if you lost an arm, leg, sight, or in wheelchair, more major problems like these.  But now days, there is so many more illnesses that are considered a disability. You can have loss of limb, sight, wheelchair bound, but you can also have Major depression, There are even new illness not listed in the books as of yet like Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, and many others. But then again, at the same time, they say that even though two may have Depression, only one may qualify for disability and not the other.  I know that there is minor depression, and can level all the way up to Major Depression, I guess that is where they draw the line.  For if you have Major Depression, your not at all able to function with everyday things in life, let alone go to work and deal with that additional stress each day.

What are you suppose to do if your not totally fully disabled, but your not able to work a regular everyday full time job as you used to do.  What if your not close to retirement age, and if you do try to retire early due to health, your given a loss of money choice.  Don’t understand how that can really be fare.  What happens when there are the ones who need it, and may even risk their own health to continue on, as they do not perfectly qualify for permanent disability.

Then take a look at the ones I see showing on TV, that they are claiming full disability, and yet they are seen running down the street, I think its the ones like that, that hurts the ones who actually need it.  And who is to say, someone sitting in a nice comfortable office, has a daily meal, paycheck come in regularly, and has insurance to go and keep up with their doctor appoints, what really gives them the right to look over an application and say “Denied”, or “Approved”, how do they know if it is legitimate.  They say you need doctor records, and such, but as it also states in a research part I did that, doctors do not always find the actual illness to confirm it, nor do they always know if it is capable of causing permanent disability.

Many people exploit the system while those in need suffer.

Others benefit that do not deserve it while those that really need the help must go without. I myself suffer from Fibromyalgia (for ten years) and am unable to go out to work. I am at home without a paying job and my husband is forced to support the six of us on his own. That is not fair, but others who have excellent health are getting benefits that people like myself should be receiving. Thanks for the article.

My mother could not get disability till she was dying; yet, my ex-husband was able to get it as a fairly young man because of having a perforated colon. Sometimes I think it has to do with how sincerely you wish not to work. Mother was a workaholic. Not working was really hard on her when she truly had to stop. A lot depends on where you are, how good your social worker is, how willing your doctor is to work with you, and the social climate at the time of your application. I’m not sure there are any really good answers. Being disabled could happen to any of us for any number of reasons, so this is a good question–but I’m not sure it has a good answer.

Right with you there,CD. Why is it some people can collect unemployment while attending school and others cannot?
I’m too young for some services, and too old for others. Paying taxes doesn’t get you as far as it once did.
It doesn’t matter. “The Man” is beginning to work with me though, and I take it one day at time, hoping for the best.

You have hit a sore spot here, and that is why our country is going down, we have allowed people to make excuses no to work.
As a person, I know Bipoplar individuals who are working and contributing to society

Some rules should really be reviewed. I also know some people like that, just taking other people’s taxes to support their lives even if they can still work while those who deserved to be helped do not get any. :(
