Hope for Physically and Mentally Children
Physically and Mentally Challenged children should be admitted to normal schools.
The Physically and Mentally challenged Children should be admitted to Normal Schools
Physically and Mentally challenged children need to feel that they are part and parcel of this world and are as much wanted and loved as the normal children. Normal children must be sensitized to the challenged people’s needs and problems. By making the normal and challenged students study together, the normal children get to learn values like compassion, love and empathy. Such values like co-operation, coordination and team spirit are also imparted.
The need of the hour is to train teachers to teach the challenged children as per their special needs and also, schools must equip themselves to meet these needs. Braile books for the blind, ramps for the polio affected children and similarity special measures should be taken to help speech impaired students. Remember, no one wants to be a handicapped. Handicaps just occur. There is urgent need to give the handicaps an environment in which they can also realize their dreams and live life fully.
In selecting the children with special needs to the normal school, expert opinion of doctors must be taught before initiating the selection procedure.

Students seldom react as negatively to their disabled colleagues, it is normally the parents who take on that role.

There are lot of program and teacher who are trained to assist special needs children. This might be a good idea but sometimes there is a reason for the way things are being done.

I think sometimes parents and or teachers require a separate school for them only because ‘normal’ kids can be cruel and hurtful. Good article though.

mainstreaming is the word nowadays. hopefully changing the society’s perception about special kids will also go hand in hand.

good post..
and I agree with some of the comments above.. I also think they need to put them in special school as there are certain programmes to train them which may not be suitable for other kids.

Slowly very slowly the world as a whole is becoming more tolerant of people who are different to themselves, good work on a sensitive subject. LB

It may be a good idea because children in special needs will feel that they are no different with other children.

I see where you are coming from but was slightly shocked when I saw that you had referred to disabled or special needs children as not normal.
I have a son who is 13 and has Aspergers syndrome, which basically means he has high functioning Autism. We did look at getting him in to a special needs school but I am so glad we didn’t and he has attended main stream schooling. He has had to put up with bullying but no more than a fat or ginger child. He has learn’t who to ignore and who’s opinion counts. We do have a number of special needs teachers well trained to deal with anything that comes up.
Great article awareness, thanks for bringing this to other people attention.
