Is Humanity Losing Dominion in The World?
Traditionally a human being has been said to operate under five basic senses dependent on the organ responsible for the sensation.

The five senses are the sense of sight dependant on the ability to see with the eyes, the sense of smell dependant on the ability to smell with the nose, the sense of taste dependant on the ability to taste with the tongue, the sense of hearing dependant on the ability to hear with the ears, and the sense of touch dependant on the ability to feel through the skin.
The issue of how many senses a human being operates on is however complex and there are no agreements in this area. Some suggests that human beings operate under nine senses while others think there are twenty four. It is generally agreed that, “for something to qualify as a sense requires a free-standing sense organ associated with it”.
Then there is the element of judgment which we always refer to as common sense. This is based on the assumption that as human beings we operate under a sense that is common to all of us. According to the online dictionary, common sense refers to “Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge”. Perhaps common sense is the one that guides us on how we use our other senses.
One thing to be observed is that people who are born with disabilities, like for example, blindness or deafness seem to make up these deficiencies through other senses. They seem more deep than the shallowness of those who are born with all the perceived five senses. They use their sense of touch to feel what they cannot see, while those who cannot hear use their sense of sight to observe lips or even determine feelings.
From general observation, it is apparent that common sense is becoming very rare. As modern technology takes over where the human brain or ability was previously useful, something pertaining to human senses is being lost. It seems like a human’s sense of being or judgment is being replaced by machines or by something else that is not yet defined or named.
More and more people are waiting to be told how to live their lives. They want to be told what to eat and how to eat it; how to have sex and when to have it in the most depraved way; how to think and what to think about, among such things that would be considered operating under common sense.
Machines are now directing people as they drive and robots are taking over certain hospitals. Computers have the capabilities of storing information greater than a human beings and are becoming more useful than humans. Infact they are playing game shows (remember watson?). In the military they are now using aerial drones to kill their enemies or commit murder.

But apart from machines taking over human capabilities, animals, in particular dogs, are also replacing human beings in sensing. A dog’s sense to smell is said to be 100,000 times more sensitive than that of humans. It is becoming obvious that dogs seem to be performing better than human beings in certain professions and are consequently replacing human beings.
Beauceron dog
For example dogs, in particularly Beauceron, are now being used to sniff gluten in food to protect people with celiac disease (human can’t do it?). Further it is now established that dogs, in particular Labradors, are able to detect bowel cancer with 98% accuracy by examining stool samples. The technology currently used is only 10% accurate.
German Shepherd
German shepherds have proved to be more effective in detecting road side bombs through smell. They are now becoming the military bomb specialties. Terriers have been proved able to sniff bedbugs with a 95% accuracy. This is three times better than a human being’s sense of sight. Exterminators are therefore using them as opposed to human beings.
Terrier Dog
It seems like more and more human beings are becoming redundant as they lose their natural ability to think or reason. The more we depend on gadgets to do things for us, the more we lose our ability to functions independently. The question is, are human beings destined to be robots controlled by a power that they cannot even understand?

Common sense being rare. Ain’t that the truth.

Humans lost it long time ago when too much technology became the basis of development. The only thing remaining is for these other animals to colonize us.

Very interesting article. I agree completely that common sense is not all that common. I’m thinking though that the dogs are not going to be taking over any time soon. A dog can be trained to search for a specific scent for the benefit of humans, but they don’t know the specifics of why they are being required to find it. They just know that they get rewarded for doing what they are trained for.
My computer science teacher in high school told us frequently that computers are only as smart as the people who program them. Yes, once they receive instructions on what to compute, they can preform the function faster and more efficiently than humans, but they don’t do anything for their own benefit.
I do agree that we depend on a lot of technology that most people don’t understand. If we lost all of our gadgets and gizmos it would take a lot of work to relearn survival skills, but humans are adaptable.

@ Karen
I beg to defer. Human beings are becoming very robotic. While the dogs may not take over, man it seems will be controlled by anyone or anything that will prove viable. How will man survive if they lose the abilty to think ? Read the Bible.
