In most countries, disabled people are not catered for adequately, e.g. buildings are often inappropriately designed. Governments rely too heavy on charities and voluntary organizations to provide assistance and funding.
It is easily realized nowadays that a majority of people with disability are facing up to numerous difficulties in their daily life. Although governments have shown some of their attempt to improve the situation, too much assistance as well as funding is still mainly from charities or voluntary organizations. Therefore, I personally hold the belief that there ought to be a joint effort between governments and public for much more discernible help to the disabled.
In the first place, I will mention the indispensable role of governments in taking different measures to provide more comfort for people with deformities. To begin with, it‘s time for a considerable amount of budget from governments to be put aside to invest in equipments for the disabled, namely wheelchair accessible buses in transportation systems, road signs with highlighted colors for sighting-impaired victims or special design in buildings catered particularly for handicapped people. Furthermore, Governments should create more employment opportunities for the disabled to socialize with the public. Last but not least, laws are recommended to be passed as a protection for disabled people against discrimination as well as prejudice in the society.
On the other hand, however, Individuals need to be well aware of their responsibility in assisting people with disability. Volunteers can show their efforts when joining in part time job without being paid at centers for the handicapped. Besides it, encouragement should be given to charities for continuing to provide disabled people with more funding as well as assistance.
In a nutshell, there is much room for improvements in the quality of handicapped people’s lives and it’s essential for both governments and individuals to be helpful assistants to victims of disabilities.
