Are We Moving Beyond Capitalism?
Capitalism is a continuation of the feudal system of servitude which collapsed and was replaced by an industrial elite. Now the elite is losing its grip on people and exploding as a result of the enshrined profit motive.
Now a revolution might well be afoot; not some violent affair, but as a rejection of the values inherent to the capitalistic faith, or more exactly as an evolution arising from the death of this capitalist faith so that the ideology looses its grip on the people, bringing not only disenchantment with but down right resentment of it. This revolution is now resisted by those still faithful to the old mythology to the point where we face a depression and an opening towards an unknown or ill formed transformation of our culture.
This could be an evolution out of the materialism in which our culture has existed since the earliest days of Christianity with its condemnation of Gnosticism and mysticism in general for the sake of a belief system embodying itself into the institution of the Church to be followed by the state and with the present new faith we call patriotism or nationalism which in turn is fading away among maturing people, most especially in Europe.
I think we need to see the present political developments in Washington but also in the world at large in the context of this cultural evolution if we are to take a step forward towards community as opposed to the mere collectivity prevailing today along with the recognition that our existence is inseparable from that of our environment. There is a sense that we need to develop reverence for being, for each other, for all people, and for nature in all its forms, including our own body.
This evolution of course is a move on through materialism, be this materialism enshrined in capitalism, communism, socialism or any other ism. It is an evolution beyond the culture of the industrialized nations still maintaining the feudal master servant form is. It is for us to find the way to step beyond ideologies and face what is here and now, our shared presence with each other and all that exists.
