Arizona`s Economy and Agriculture

An analysis of Arizona’s economy and agriculture.

Economy

First Arizona was made a lot of money in farming , there is still ten thousand, three hundred farms today. They grow lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, sorghum, and cotton. Arizona is one of the biggest cotton states. Indians make most of there money working casinos on there reservations. Some Arizonians raise goats, cows, and sheep as well. A large amount of people are ranchers and produce hogs, poultry, poultry products, and dairy products. One of Arizona’s main minerals is copper. Arizona manufactures more than sixty percent of the United States of America’s copper. Gold and silver are found in Arizona also and is used too. This is found at the Colorado and Gila River. But copper is still the most important out of all of these.  Arizona has been manufacturing things like computers, key boards, radios, and televisions since about the nineteen fifties. But even though Arizona has all of  these resources Arizona is still lacking much water. Arizona did many things to help that and dams was one of them. Soon they were doing OK with water.

Agriculture

Arizona’s agricultural out put was valued at two and a half billion dollars, which is the twenty ninth in the USA. IN 2002 there were about seven thousand three thousand farms covering twenty seven million acres. But  only 1.3 percent of Arizona is actually used for farming. Arizona is one of the top cotton growing states. It is also the leading cash crop. Annually Arizona grows about $134,000,000 worth of cotton. Some other crops that are important are wheat, grapes, sorghum, barley, lettuce, and citrus fruits.
