Australia’s Economic CPR
The money is slowly being received by Australians all over but is this going to help bring the financial crisis to a halt or will it just ensure Kevin “07 is Kevin “11 too?.
So the problem arises that the money isn’t going to go where it’s intended. The people getting it are the ones in debt and they’re going to spend it on their bills and on their loans and it’s not going to be enough to solve the problems, just ease the burdens. But in the end nothing changes.
Except Kevin Rudd’s approval rating.
What to do, what to do? Well the money has gone out and it’s too late now. The plan will fail as it was always going to do and the economy isn’t going to be better off. Was there another option? Could the money have gone somewhere? Well the government could always spend the tax money on some commission of private business. Maybe buy some new cars for government workers to use while working. Maybe some furnishings for public buildings? A new paint job for parliament house?
Or give the money to me. No, seriously, give it to me and my demographic. Listen, do you know how many bills I pay regularly? None! I’m a dependant student and I don’t even have student loans. Do you know what I would spend the money on? Well first I’d buy some food from the Japanese restaurant up the road. Dinner for the family! Then I’d go buy a book and there’s a couple of DVDs I’ve often thought about buying. Oh and I’m low on games to play for my PS3. I could spend the money on dry cleaning my nice jacket.
Oh I’ll still do these things I’ll just have to work for the money like everyone else.
But I know another guy, good friend of mine and a student, without a job. He’d go out and buy some books (bit of a book worm) and he’d buy some scotch to enjoy with it. I’m sure he’d like to replace his old mp3 player and there’s probably some death metal worth listening to that he hasn’t got the CD of yet.
You see my demographic is young and because of that often dependant without any real bills and no debts to anyone. We’re the biggest group of consumers you will ever see because those are the things we’re worried about. And those more independent people are still young students living cheaply in school dorms or in a house with four of their friends to help pay for everything. So that’s where the money, if you’re that desperate to give it out, is going to go.
And you know what, Kevin? If it’s that important to you I’ll even vote for you next time instead of voting for a potato.
But as I said it’s too late and this silly little scheme isn’t going to stimulate anything. Well, anything except Kevin Rudd’s approval rating.
