Big Box Business
It was bound to happen.
As some of you may or may not have heard, Circuit City is circling the drain, going down in flames, sinking beneath the waves, losing cabin pressure, up the shit creek without a paddle or any other analogy you can think of for going out of business.
Random people feel like the need to express their opinions about this matter to me constantly wherever I go. Why just today, waiting for my food at Burger King, an individual commented on Circuit City’s predicament while he motioned to my uniform asking if our store was to be closing down since he saw on CNN that 155 stores would close
He seemed bothered by the fact I didn’t care so much about the fate of my company. He then asked how long I’d been working there. I could feel him start to get fidgety, not exactly sure about something, and then abruptly asked “Why doesn’t the bankruptcy of your company bother you?”
I told him nonchalantly that Circuit City doesn’t care about me any farther than I make them money and mentioned the firing of 3,400 of the finest employees Circuit City (Read More Here). This just proves I, as the lower class employee, am expendable. Having five years in the retail industry, this seems to be a reoccurring theme.
But what I’ve never been able understood, is why people would take pride Circuit City. This person felt that for the length of time I’ve worked at the place, that I should be compelled to help the company get out of Bankruptcy. Even after two years, I wouldn’t feel the slightest twinge of remorse if the place went six feet under. It’d be a hassle to find another job, sure, but nothing beyond the annoyance of job hunting.
