China at The Crossroads
Presently, China keeps enjoying the fruits of capitalism while assuming an appellation that is a departure from Marxism. There isn’t any question that it must, sooner or later, reveal its true identity.
China must eventually choose between communism and capitalism. Presently its entire body of politics, cloaked in the garb of capitalism, is “out of the ordinary.” Its advocacy of communism falls far short of the parental dogma of Marxism. With its teeming population and variegated ethnicity, there is no doubt that the misnomer is but a ”make-believe” that would have been absolutely unimaginable for Mao himself to fully digest, given the framework of his so-called ideals that he had initiated with the blessing of the Soviet hierarchy.
Having once adhered zealously to the Soviet school of thought, when it first embraced its ideology, China’s present standing in the comity of nations has taken on the challenge of the well-tested system of free enterprise, at par with those of the world’s democracies.
China’s sudden turnaround from unswerving communism to capitalism, with all its frills and sequins, is beyond reckoning. Yet China has so far succeeded in promoting itself as a communist nation with trade practices and commercial know-how that smack of true capitalism, catapulting it to the top of the ”heap.” There is, however, the possibility that, with the lapse of time, the summit on which it has established itself will have to yield to a drastic shifting of ground that time can only tell. The process of any change in the political arena is dependent on forces that politics alone cannot control.
