Economy Round Up

Looking back at our recession crisis during the first half of 2009.

First our banks and now our buses, what will the recession take next, our lives. Recently though it seems the bus cuts throughout Dublin that are getting the most coverage. Brid Smith from the People Before Profit alliance has been campaigning tirelessly to prevent this from happening.

Brid had said on this matter “Well Dublin Bus is to lay off 300 employees and is going to cut 120 routes around Dublin. The 78a is going to be cut by around 20 departures a day and everyone knows it is one of the most used bus routes in Dublin. The 206 and the 210 are two buses which are to be taken off route altogether”.  News like this is a blow to workers and public service users alike. Brid also stated “. It is going to cost the government more when it comes to people claiming on benefits and other welfare needs. It is also going to cost the taxpayer much more money”.  When also asked about the recession and how these jobs can be saved she stated “the likely option is to protest”.

These days it seems like there is just one word on everyone’s mind, that word which people not just in Ireland but nearly all over the world hate mentioning, yet it is very much on the tip of all your worn out and over talked tongues. Well here it goes, the ‘Recession’.

This word is so hated these days that in years to come it could be referred to as a curse word just like any other where parents will physically attack their children by any mention of it.

Many of the young people might not have cared about that word a few weeks ago. It was only possibly the grand parents that understood the damage that one little word could do. But that was a couple of weeks ago and this is now. Now even young people seem to have come to understand the effects of, here it goes again, the ‘Recession’. If you haven’t then your living under a rock high in the mountains, which is probably the safest bet at the moment. STAY THERE!

How has the recession effected us all though in so many different ways? Both young and old are feeling the pain of the economy buster. The negatives are what springs to mind, lists of which could even go for hours but where are the advantages? Are there no perks or upsides to this what so ever? Well not yet anyway.
