Going Green Provides Jobs
In the downswing of our economy and job losses, why not take the bull by the horns and do something good for the planet and the economy?
With the world economy in the the pits some people are saying going green must take a back burner but others disagree and say this is the time to pull away from the pack and invest in clear air. We can’t do it any sooner and two or three decades later may be to late. Proponents of this plan say it can be the new wave of the future, provide new industries and create millions of jobs.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for a “Green New Deal” that would reshape the nations in the way President Franklin D. Roosevelt used to bring the United States out of the depression in the 1930’s. This could be the impetus to get the economy on a roll and get everybody back to work. It could also save the planet for our grandchildren and their heirs.
Other countries have taken the lead, according to United Nations report, Germany already employs 250,000 people in it’s renewable energy program and by 2020 expects to provide more jobs than the country’s auto industry. Britain expects to put up 7,000 wind turbines by 2020 at a cost of $100 billion. They claim the wind turbines will provide 160,000 jobs.

France appears to lead the green movement at present. They built nuclear plants during the last 25 years that supplies 80 percent of their energy with no greenhouse gases or direct emissions. They also have many high speed train lines that are energy efficient. Saving energy by insulating homes and businesses is in their plans. This construction will provide 200,000 to 500,00 jobs over the next several years. France expects to use 40 percent less energy by 2020.
Countries like Poland and China who release more carbon dioxide into the air than all of Europe are a big problem. A scheme to trade carbon credits or to capture and store the carbon dioxide from coal burning is as yet untested.

Investing in green technology provides jobs, clean air, clean water and will save our natural environment for us and our descendants. Is anything more valuable? What better way to jump start our economy and nurture our planet. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in 1933,”The nation is asking for action, and action is now.”

Ruby, you are absolutely on the right track on this one. We need to take care of our earth, or it will be go down the tubes like our stock market did.

Thank you. I am tired of people trying to tell us that going green will mean people lose their jobs, in reality they may switch jobs but there will be more of them.
The real loss of jobs come from places switching to automated tellers and self check out lines

Well done Ruby, my thoughts are a bit more extreme to the point that it shouldnt matter… the economy should NOT be more important than the environment.. the environment is real, the economy is man made.. self imposed, we can live in a crappy economy – we cannot survive a global environmental disaster.

Ruby – a wonderful write! And it’s time for change…we’ve lost enough of our natural blessings, like animals, plant life, air quality, and water resources. Time to get “crackin’” as my niece use to say when she was 5.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate you as always.
B Nelson, I agree our planet comes before the economy or anything else. That was the point I was trying to get across. It needs to be done now and if it provides jobs for so many people so much the better.
Alexa, I think it’s because our planet is green and if we don’t protect it now it will be green no longer.
