Horses and The Economy
About the economy and its affect on the horses in the U.S.
Horses are one of life’s greatest gifts and many people have come to realize that. Unfortunately, with the worlds economy the way it is today, many horses have been tossed out on their own to survive alone. People are no longer able to take care of their once best friend and they had to make a choice. It was either them, or the horse and like most would do, they chose themselves. Sometimes the owner might not even have a choice between themselves and their love friend. Sometimes, it may be the choice of feeding the horse or putting food in their children’s mouths. This is a reasonable answer. A child is a great importance to parents and if they have to give up what they love in rder to provide for that child, then they must.
The horse is not at fault for the way our economy is going and neither is the owner. Okay, maybe the owner is partly responsible. They should know how much the need in order to take care of both their family and their pets. I agree that sometimes we all fall on hard times and we can no longer have all the wants that we once had, but we should not act the way we do towards horses once we fall on these hard times.
Some people can tell when they will no longer be able to care for their animals and they then send them to shelters and new homes, but most people can’t afford to send an animal to the shelters. Shelter, while a great sanctuary for homeless horses, charge a fee to take in the animal so that they will be able to care for it as well. That thought has struck many people at dead force and that makes them succumb to their last resort. They can’t take it to the shelter and they can’t find anyone who will take the horse in, so they find a secluded place, or a place near people, that they will just drop the horse off.
Dropping a horse off in the middle of nowhere is definitely not th best thing in the world to do. Most people that do this don’t understand that a horse that has been provided for by people its whole life cannot live on its own. When you’re the one that has fed and watered that horse everyday, they learn to depend on you. That just may be one of mankind’s greatest mistakes. To take such an independent animal and force them to develop into the stage where they depend solely on us is truly cruel.
