Develop ‘Compliance’ Brand for the RMG Sector –
Compliance standard of RMG units varied widely in respect of size of operation and type of compliance. Factory level compliance standard is relatively better than social compliance. Compliance standard is poor in a number of areas including timely payment of wages, canteen facility, childcare facility, availability of doctors, appointment letter etc.
The compliance standard of factories was calculated on the basis of sixteen factors in the areas of factory level and social compliance and high level of compliance standard at the factory level is being considered as the basic requirement to get orders.
Political Unrest –
Bangladesh lost some genuine chances of foreign investment where political instability was one of the main causes. So the next elected government should maintain political stability and ensure the right economic policies. Especially the political governments could be more popular by taking up measures to protect the countries` economic interest, which the people ask for.
Labour Unrest –
The escalation of labour unrest came despite a 20 percent increase in garment exports during the period, which buttressed the country’s economic growth in a year of natural calamities and soaring inflation.
The Bangladesh garment industry in particular has been plagued by workers unrest in the last few weeks.
The home ministry ordered to tackle unrest in readymade garment sector with an iron hand. The government directive is a timely and necessary measure as violence and unrest in the RMG sector have exceeded tolerable level and the BGMEA also has sought government protection to keep the industry running. Sometime rumors over workers death were causing most of the unrest in ready-made garments industry.
