One Thing at a Time
Gas prices go down, food prices go up.
First off, I want to say how happy I am that the gas prices have finally become more manageable. I didn’t think I would ever see prices get this low again in my lifetime. Thank God! I can now fill my car up for under $30.00. It has made such a big difference in my mood and attitude about driving. I used to love to drive until the prices got so high I couldn’t afford it and then when we were on the verge of not having any at all, man my nerves were shot! My kids are happy now too.
Mom loves to drive again.
I don’t have so much anxiety now when I take them places. I don’t have that fear of running out of gas and not being able to get to work. We don’t have to schedule everyone’s appointments so closely together anymore. Even though I am so happy about the fuel prices coming down, there is something else that has now crept it’s way into our everyday. I guess since we were so busy worrying about fuel that we didn’t notice the prices of all the other necessities of life.
Have you been to the grocery store lately?
Have you really been looking at the prices of the things you buy on a regular basis? I have and I am so shocked at how “the man” has stuck it to us, once again, when it comes to feeding our families. I would say the prices have gone up at least 50 cents on most things. I have a better understanding of how we have become a fat people. It is so expensive to eat healthy! There’s no wonder as to why we, the middle class, have packed on the pounds. We are buying cheap fat filled foods that are quick and easy to incorporate into our ever-shrinking budgets.
I know I can’t take on the world and fix it over night, but I think we need reassess our priorities as a country and fix the problem with our eating habits. I am a victim as well. I need to lose some weight but it’s just so easy to get what’s cheaper. I think it should be the other way around. Fruits and veggies should be cheaper than sugar packed cream pies and double battered chicken bits. I know I’m living in a dream world but I hope and pray every night for an answer to fix this problem with the waistline.
But we can only do one thing at a time, I know. So now that gas prices are not the hot button issue let’s work on the economy and the way we fuel our bodies.
