Think Blue Ocean

Blue Ocean was published in 2005 and yet so many business leaders and politician are still stuck in the Red Ocean Mentality.

Introduction

One of the concepts proposed in Blue Ocean was to change the focus and look for other areas to market your product.  In other words, rather than continuing to compete for a shrinking pie, grow the pie and everybody will have a bigger share.

Old Mentality

Unfortunately for the world economy, many have chosen to stick to their old ideas and focus on protectionism.   Each trying to protect their own little market and their own little domain.  The continue to claim their percentage of their pie and guard them jealously refusing to share with others.  These small minded people don’t realize that their actions are jeopardizing the whole economy and make the pie shrink.

A more effective approach is get the most qualified people do what they do best and grow the market.  Personally, I would prefer a smaller percentage of a bigger cake than a bigger percentage of a smaller cake.

Think about it, one third of a large size pizza is more than half of a personal pan pizza.

Next Generation

Another problem that is encountered is the older leaders are so stuck in their ways insist on brainwashing the next generation in their ways as well.  This results in a vicious cycle of a shrinking economy.

The concept applies whether you are running a company or a country.    One solution is to change the leadership and the key players so that new blood and new concepts can be introduced and invigorate the business.

Questions to Ask

Some questions that leaders need to ask (it does not matter if you are leading a company or leading a country):

  1. Why are we leaders?
  2. How do we earn the trust of the people we are leading?
  3. Are we sincere to our constituents?

Thought provoking read, well written. We can apply this to our article writing, come up with something original rather than repeat what others have done before us.

Interesting article, I guess as with all areas of life change is difficult, and new ideas are rejected because they are uncomfortable and go against what we have already learnt.

    thanks for the share
