A third of food products for human consumption in the world is throwing down the drain. A study commissioned by FAO, the UN Organization for Food and Agriculture shows that mankind is very wasteful in the middle of the food crisis.

One of the most important conclusions of the study done recently is that no matter the economic status of a country when it comes to food thrown in the trash.

Whether we speak of strong or weak states most industrialized or developing, all dissipate the same amount of food – that between 670 and 630 million tonnes , says UN report .

Every year, consumers in rich countries produce as much food waste (222 million tons), but net production of food from all over sub-Saharan Africa (230 million tons).

The amount of lost or wasted food each year is equivalent to more than half of annual grain crops of the world – 2.3 billion tonnes.

A European and an American cast between 95 and 115 kg of food per year , while consumers in sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia each cast only between 6 and 11 kg per year. Total, per capita food production for human consumption is about 900 kg per year in rich countries.
