Unemployment

The article describes unemployment, its types and causes.

Unemployment means when a person is willing and able to do a job but is unable to find a job. Unemployment has many types and there are several reasons for unemployment.

Among the several types of unemployment, it is worth mentioning a few of them:

  • Cyclical unemployement : This occurs when the economy is in recession which is a period when the ecnomy is decreasing in size or there is negative economic growth. The demand for goods falls hence causing a fall in the demand of those involved in the production of such goods (employees).
  • Frictional unemployment: This occurs during the time when a person has left one job and is in search of another job. Therefore it is also called search employment. This type of unemployment could be reduced by acts like education and training as well as forming job centers and giving special aid for disabled people e.g. those who have difficulty moving around should be provided jobs at home using the Internet.
  • Structural unemployemt: This means when there is a mismatch between the sufficiently skilled workers looking for the jobs and vacancies available. Althought the unemployed may be higly skilled, thier skills might not be suitable for the vacancies.
  • Hardcore unemployement: This occurs when some people are unfit and unemployable because of their characteristics like severe mental, physical disability, anti social behaviour or drug abuse.

Costs of Unemployment

The costs of unemployment could be very substantial for the unemployed person as well  as the society as a whole.

Individual

  • The standared of living for the unemployed person and his family will fall due to the loss of income.
  • The person will lose self respect and status in the society.
  • The greater the time of unemployment, the harder it becomes to find a job due to the loss of skills of the unemployed person.

Society

  • The tax that the people pay will be paid out as unemployment benefits to those not working rather than being spent on roads, defence etc.
  • Crime rates tend to increase with an increase in unemployment
  • Businesses will have reduced demand for their products because of the lower incomes that the unemployed will have

This is a very appropriate topic for an article. I am currently suffering from structural unemployment and blogging seems worth the time. Thanks for the read.

Concise and accurate. Good job. However, the flow and wording could use work. Your sentences tend to end oddly. For example: “Businesses will have reduced demand for their products because of the lower incomes that the unemployed will have.” Try to eliminate your uses of “has,” “had,” “is,” “was,” “were,” become,” or any other be-verbs. To better explain, I would rewrite the sample sentence as so, “The unemployed’s lowered incomes affect businesses due to the decrease in demand for their products.” ^_^ But I found your article very interesting and informitive!

    Best wishes,
